Jason Behrendorff! Remember thy name! The Australian left-arm bowler has chosen a great platform to announce he is a special cricketer, taking a four-wicket haul in 15 balls to rattle India’s top-order in the second T20I at Guwahati on Tuesday. He first sent back Rohit Sharma for eight after Hitman carted him for two fours. Two balls later in the same over, he dismissed Indian skipper Virat Kohli for a second-ball duck. India were 8/2 at the end of first over, not the ideal start they expected.
However, Behrendorff was not done yet. In his second over, he sent back Manish Pandey for six. And in his third over, he dismissed Shikhar Dhawan to reduce India to 27/4 in 4.3 overs. Behrendorff completed his spell of four overs, giving away just 21 runs for four wickets.
This was just the second T20I and second international game overall Behrendorff was playing in his career and he chose the ideal way to announce his arrival by sending back the best batsman of current era, Virat Kohli, for a second-ball duck.
But hold on, Behrendorff is not new to scalping star Indian batsmen for ducks. He has on previous occasions taken the wickets of Indian cricketing god Sachin Tendulkar and the ‘Rahul Wall Dravid’ for ducks.
Although Behrendorff is new to international cricket, he is a 39-match old in T20 cricket. He plays for Perth Scorchers in Big Bash League. In the 2013 Champions League held in India, Behrendorff has dismissed both the Indian legends for ducks.
Playing for Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for second-ball duck against Perth Scorchers on the bowling off Behrendorff. However, Mumbai Indians won that match.
Rahul Dravid, who played for Rajasthan Royals in 2013 Champions League, was bowled for 4-ball duck by Behrendoff. Once again, Perth Scorchers lost that match.
Behrendorff was part of the winning Big Bash League campaign in 2013-14, 2015-15 seasons for Perth Scorchers. He was the joint second highest wicket-taker in 2014-15 Big Bash League season with Yasir Arafat with 15 wickets each.
