Cricket is one of the most popular sports played across the globe. Go to any corner of the world and you find cricket lovers and see individuals of all age groups playing this particular sport. Professional cricketers have stadiums and other amenities to satisfy their needs of playing cricket but what about the millions of others who love to play this sport too? Not everyone gets a chance to play and express themselves in front of a crowd and on lush green outfields in the stadiums.
Hence, in order to get that satisfaction, you see people playing the sport on streets, in parks, in residential areas, in fact wherever they get free space, these cricket fanatics try to express themselves.
Apparently, a group was playing cricket in one of the parks in the city of Bolzano and an unfortunate incident took place. A two-year-old boy was hit by the ball on his head while these cricket lovers were playing the sport in a park nearby. The boy was on the balcony of his house and suffered from a concussion soon after this blow. The little kid did recover from the concussion but his parents sent an email to the mayor of Bolzano regarding this incident.
Following the incident, the mayor of Bolzano in northern Italy has banned playing cricket in parks. There are many Pakistani and Afghan migrants in this city who love to play cricket and this decision by Mayor Renzo Caramaschi would be a heart break to those migrants who often play in the parks. They can’t play cricket in parks but they do have the permission to play the sport on tennis courts and baseball fields.
Bolzano isn’t the first Italian city that has banned playing cricket in parks. Earlier in 2009, another Italian city named Brescia had banned playing cricket in public places too. Not many Italians play or follow cricket but the Afghan and Pakistani migrants do have a craze for the sport. Instead of parks, they’ll have to play their beloved sport on Tennis courts and Baseball fields. That’s not a bad option either!
