86 Pandya took 86 balls to complete his maiden Test century. This was the second fastest ton by an Indian cricketer in away Tests. Virender Sehwag has scored the fastest century in away Tests in 78 balls. Sehwag struck a 78-ball ton against West Indies at Gros Islet in 2006.
2 Pandya’s 86-ball ton was the second quickest ton in Sri Lanka. Former Sri Lankan player Mahela Jayawardene holds the first spot, with a ton off 81 balls against Bangladesh at the SSC in Colombo in 2000-01.
5 Pandya became the fifth Indian player to score a first-class ton in a Test. Vijay Manjrekar, Kapil Dev, Ajay Ratra and Harbhajan Singh are the four other Indian cricketers to achieve such a feat.
107 Pandya scored 107 runs in the first session of the second day’s play which was extended by 30 minutes as India’s last pair was batting. He became the first Indian player to score over 100 runs before lunch on any day of a Test match.
