Trinbago Knight Riders will take on Barbados Tridents in the second contest of the double header on Saturday. Both units look solid and have come up with some entertaining performances at the beginning of Caribbean Premier League 2017. Cricwizz takes a look at the strengths and weaknesses of both teams.
Trinbago Knight Riders: Strengths
DJ Bravo as the leader: DJ Champion Bravo is the skipper of the Trinbago Knight Riders and when the team has such a match winner as their captain, he tends to inspire the rest of the team to come up with match winning performances. Bravo is yet to fire in the tournament but the amount of experience he has in this format, makes him a player to watch out for, each and every time he walks out onto the cricket field. Be it with the ball or with the bat, DJ Bravo is a match winning player.
Kiwi duo in form: New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro have played some excellent knocks in the tournament so far. It’s due to the stellar batting performances by these two, that Trinbago Knight Riders find themselves in a strong position at this point of the tournament.
Shadab Khan at his best: Pakistan’s young gun Shadab Khan has impressed one and all with his all-round skills in CPL 2017. He played an equally pivotal role during Pakistan’s successful run in ICC Champions Trophy a couple of months ago.
Trinbago Knight Riders: Weaknesses
Complacency: Having got off to a dream start in this year’s CPL campaign, the only thing that can pull Knight Riders down is their complacency. They have some talented young players in the team but sometimes complacency could get in the way and hence there are chances of the team losing its way. This might be the case with Trinbago Knight Riders. It’s just the start of the tournament, let’s see how the team performs in the upcoming matches.
Trinbago Knight Riders Squad – Dwayne Bravo(c), Brendon McCullum, Hashim Amla, Denesh Ramdin, William Perkins, Nikita Miller, Darren Bravo, Kevon Cooper, Sunil Narine, Robert Frylinck, Hamza Tariq, Colin Munro, Ronsford Beaton, Javon Searles, Mehedi Hasan, Shadab Khan, Anderson Phillip, Khary Pierre.
Barbados Tridents: Strengths
Kieron Pollard’s in top form: With a couple of blistering half-centuries already in the tournament, Kieron Pollard has made a strong statement. He’s not going to spare any bowlers and his destructive side was on display in Barbados’ last two games. The big West Indian was lethal in his 35-ball 83* against the St Lucia Stars. If the skipper continues going along in the same way, the Tridents would definitely make it to the finals of the tournament.
Lethal pace attack: With Ravi Rampaul, Wayne Parnell and Wahab Riaz in the team, Barbados Tridents have a fiery pace attack. Parnell has taken quite a few wickets for the Tridents and Riaz has got the pace to unsettle best of the batsmen. Hence TKR need to be wary of Barbados’ fast bowlers.
Barbados Tridents: Weaknesses
Away game: As this is an away game for Barbados Tridents, it’s obvious that Trinbago Knight Riders would have a lot of crowd support behind them. Barbados have lost only one match out of their three games but beating Trinbago Knight Riders in their backyard might be a very difficult task.
Barbados Tridents Squad – Kieron Pollard(c), Shoaib Malik, Dwayne Smith, Tino Best, Wahab Riaz, Wayne Parnell, Ravi Rampaul, Kane Williamson, Christopher Barnwell, Akeal Hosein, Raymon Reifer, Nicholas Pooran, Imran Khan, Damion Jacobs, Ryan Wiggins.
Match prediction – Trinbago Knight Riders have got the team that can make it all the way to the final. They’ve got off to very good start in CPL 2017 and their aim would be to keep going forward in the same way. As the Tridents are playing an away match, Knight Riders have an edge over Barbados in this affair. But, the most interesting battle will be between Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo. Whenever these two play against each other, the atmosphere is really lively. However, Bravo is most likely to get the better off his opposite number.
Possible winner – Trinbago Knight Riders.
