Sussex will eye revenge when they take on Glamorgan at Cardiff on Friday in the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast. Sussex lost their previous clash with Glamorgan and will look to get the better of their opponents on Friday. Sussex have played three matches so far, and are yet to win a game. Glamorgan have won four matches so far, winning two, losing one and the fourth one was a no result. Cricwizz takes a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams ahead of the clash.
A consistent opener in Luke Wright: Wright is in top form, he has notched up a ton and a fifty in three innings. He has anchored the Sussex innings, but a win has eluded the team. Wright will look to score a big one against Glamorgan. He had scored 101 in the previous game against Glamorgan but it ended up being in a losing cause.
Lacking penetration in bowling: They have not been able to stop oppositions from running away with big totals, putting additional pressure on their batsmen to score those extra 15-20 runs. Sussex need to raise their bowling standards to challenge their opponents.
Sussex squad – Ross Taylor(c), Chris Jordan, Will Beer, Ben Brown, Danny Briggs, Chris Nash, Luke Wright, Stiaan van Zyl, Laurie Evans, Philip Salt, David Wiese, George Garton, Jofra Chioke Archer.
Strong batting order: Colin Ingram has struck two tons in winning causes and he is easily their best batsman for Glamorgan. Other batsmen such as Jacques Rudolph and Chris Cooke too have pitched in with useful cameos to give Glamorgan the edge over other opponents. Glamorgan chased down a big target of 220 against Essex and they look a well-oiled batting unit.
Over reliance on individual brilliance: Thanks to Ingram’s form, Glamorgan have posted two wins in the four matches. Their batting has helped them post those wins led by Ingram and Rudolph. Hence, they are relying on few individual brilliance to take them through. They crumbled against Hampshire after poor outing from Ingramand others. Glamorgan need to focus on team’s efforts to post wins in the tournament.
Prediction: Glamorgan are a brilliant batting outfit who have few powerhitters in Ingram and Rudolph. They can chase down any target and post big totals to bat opposition out of the game. Sussex have struggled to post a win in this tournament. Glamorgan have the edge over Sussex as they have better skilled players.
Possible winner: Glamorgan
