Philander picked up an hamstring injury just four overs in, against the Indians but did come out to bat in the second innings.
The paceman went for scans on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. The news won’t be a good one for South Africa who conceded 307 runs against India and lost by 130 runs at the MCG.
Paceman Kyle Abbott will be the replacement most likely but the selectors could also opt for an extra batsman where Farhaan Behardien or Rilee Rossouw could be called in.
The Proteas would want to get back to winning ways and they cannot afford to lose against the unpredictable Windies.
